Beginner - No Gi Jiu Jitsu:

Our beginner class is the perfect entry point for anyone new to grappling. Unlike traditional Jiu Jitsu, we train in athletic gear (rashguards and shorts) rather than a heavy Gi. This creates a faster, more dynamic style focused on body positioning, pressure, and control.

What to expect:

We break techniques down step-by-step in a supportive, ego-free environment. You’ll build a strong foundation of practical skills without feeling overwhelmed.

This class is ideal if you want to:

  • Learn Practical Skills: Master effective grappling without relying on a uniform.

  • Get Fit: Improve your movement, conditioning, and functional strength.

  • Start Safely: Build confidence in a class designed specifically for newcomers.

  • No Experience Required: Just show up in comfortable athletic gear and we’ll handle the rest.

All Levels Jiu Jitsu:

These sessions bring our entire community together. Whether you are a first-time student or an experienced grappler, our All Levels classes are designed to challenge you at your specific stage of development.

How It Works:

We use a scalable curriculum. While the core technique remains the same, we provide "layers" for each move—fundamental versions for beginners and advanced variations or tactical counters for our senior students.

Why train in an All Levels environment?

  • Diverse Partners: Test your skills against various body types, strengths, and experience levels.

  • Mentorship: Beginners learn by observing high-level movement, while advanced students sharpen their details by helping others.

  • Real-World Pace: Experience a broader range of styles and intensities in a controlled, safe environment.

  • Flexible Progression: Continue building your fundamentals while getting a preview of the "higher-level" game.

What does this mean?

What is an Affiliation?
Our roots, our standards, and our community.
The Chop Shop is proud to be affiliated with OpenMat, founded by our coach, Elliott Bayev.
In Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, an affiliation provides a roadmap for technical growth, rank recognition, and a global network of teammates.
Our Philosophy:

  • Lineage & Standards: We follow a proven curriculum to ensure your progress is world-class.

  • Open Doors: We welcome students from all teams and lineages. Whether you're affiliated or independent, you have a place on our mats.

  • Cross-Training: We actively encourage training at other gyms. Learning different styles makes you a more well-rounded grappler.

Lineage matters, but your progress is shaped by the work you put in right here.
